Discover Stray Cafe

Just steps away from the heart of Redcar, Stray Cafe is where home-cooked comfort meets warm hospitality. Nestled in a cozy corner, this beloved local gem has quickly become a go-to spot for those who crave fresh flavours, affordable meals and a cheerful, down-to-earth atmosphere.

A delightful start to your day at Stray Cafe

From the moment you step inside, the inviting scent of sizzling breakfast favourites greets you. Whether you're drawn in by the promise of a jumbo all day breakfast, crispy bacon sandwich, or hearty egg and mushrooms on French toast, there’s something satisfying waiting on every plate.

The breakfast options reflect more than variety. They offer comfort. Each dish is prepared with care, served hot, and garnished with friendly smiles. You’ll feel the morning rush melt away as you sip on a classic toast and tea combo or indulge in a rich hot chocolate topped with marshmallows and cream.

A place where lunch feels like home

As lunchtime approaches, Stray Cafe continues to shine with offerings that blend traditional British bites and modern comfort food. Locals rave about the ham and cheese panini, while others return time and again for the fish and chips, cooked golden and crisp.

One standout not to miss is the corned beef and potato pie, especially when paired with chips and a generous pour of rich, savoury gravy. It’s the kind of plate that feels like it came straight from your nan’s kitchen.

The cafe makes it easy to grab a quick bite without sacrificing taste. Everything on the menu, from vegan breakfast options to a filling sausage sandwich, is served fresh and at a price that won’t break your budget.

Sweet treats and tempting bakes

If your visit includes a craving for dessert, you’re in for a treat. The cakes are a local talking point, and with good reason. From the soft layers of carrot cake to the decadent Twirl brownie and the fan-favourite Oreo brownie, each slice is handmade and packed with flavour.

Children and sweet-toothed visitors will love discovering goodies like the Freddo cookie, millionaire shortbread, or a classic scoop of ice cream. There’s always a fresh selection on display, perfect for pairing with a warm drink or taking away for an afternoon pick-me-up.

Comfort, accessibility and community at the heart

Despite its modest size, Stray Cafe makes every effort to welcome all. The space includes a wheelchair-accessible car park, making it easy for everyone to drop by and enjoy a meal. The dine-in experience is casual and unpretentious, with a friendly team that brings genuine care to every table.

Even when the place is buzzing with regulars, you’ll find the service remains upbeat and attentive. Customers frequently note the personal touches-from the warm greetings to the helpful staff who remember your order. It's that rare kind of service that turns first-timers into loyal patrons.

Why locals love coming back

A quick glance at the glowing reviews tells the story best. Patrons highlight the “great coffee, great breakfast, great prices, great service” and describe Stray Cafe as a “really awesome place” worth making part of your weekly routine. The honest food, friendly faces, and inviting energy keep locals and visitors returning with smiles.

Whether you’re grabbing a quick bite for lunch, relaxing over a slow breakfast, or popping in for a sweet treat and a hot drink, Stray Cafe delivers the kind of experience that feels genuine and grounded. It’s not trying to be trendy. It’s just trying to be good. And it does that job exceptionally well.

  • We drove 8 minutes from Saltburn to try Stray Cafe. First thoughts are it wouldn't look out of place on one of those long stretches of roads US/Australia has. We had breakfast here and I was gutted because I didn't feel well and had no taste but when I saw a breakfast burger with sausage and bacon i had to try it. It looked great but unfortunately I couldn't taste it, oddly I forced it down though haha. Definitely looking forward to going back when I'm better to try it again. Pros of Stray Cafe, great food, friendly, patient staff and a pretty cool location as after our breakfast we walked straight down to the beach, probably a 3 minute walk at most. Oh and finally a decent slab of butter, not a tiny sachet. Cons, hard to pick one but the only niggle i have like most have said in other reviews is the rubbish, I wouldn't blame the staff for this though, there are bins close by so just help out, we put anything that would blow away in the bins and a staff member did apologise too which she didn't have to, but thanks. Looking forward to visiting again.

  • Just fantastic. We came up from lincoln for the weekend and was advised to go here by the locals. We went 3 times ( twice in one day) . Food was homemade and quickly served. Service was impeccable and on the Sunday they were rushed off their feet with the local run. Yet still managed to keep everything running smoothly with a smile. Will definitely return. Lovely back story too for the family that own the business. It was a pleasure to meet them and they should be very proud of this place. We had 2 hangover breakfasts that we shared with the dogs, a quiche and a burger. Really want to try the club sandwich and eggy bread with maple syrup next time.

  • We were on holiday for a week in Redcar just for some respite for my dad who has been very ill recently. On the 1st day we spotted stray cafe by the roadside 2 mins drive from where we stayed and was sold at the sight of an all day breakfast the prices are spot on, there were 5 of us we had 5 breakfasts 3 coffees, tea and water and spent £49 which was extremely reasonable. The food is lovely, if it wasn't, we would not have gone back on day 2 never mind a full week. The staff are lovely and accommodating, they are pleasant and made sure we were welcomed every day. We will absolutely go back when we are in the area again either day trip or holiday. We are all in agreement that stray cafe is highly recommended, my dad has little to no appetite and he wolfed his breakfast down every morning, he actually said he missed his cooked breakfast this morning . The coffee is barista style coffee and syrups are available for hot chocolate and coffee. The menu is quite extensive, we had a birthday while away and sampled one of strays lovely cakes, again, highly recommend. We hope to see you all again soon.

  • Great little cafe on the seafront, serving a wide range of food including breakfast, sandwiches and meals, as well as cakes too, reasonably priced also. It has great views of the seafront too, worth the short drive or walk out of redcar town for the free parking also!
